Here is an update on what is happening in our Town as of February 1, 2012:

Town Highway Campus Under Construction

The earth movers have arrived and have begun work on the Town of Farmington’s new highway garage and highway administrative offices located at 985 Hook Road, just north of and adjacent to the active Ontario Central Railroad Line. Bids for the construction of this new facility have come in under design estimated costs that, in turn, will allow the town to move forward with the construction of the second phase of the project later this year, a new highway salt storage facility.

Restaurants

The beginning of 2012 saw the closing of a local restaurant, “Billy G’s,” and the closing of a local sports bar “Shooters.” However, all restaurant news is not bad. For example, the recently opened “Prosecco” restaurant and jazz bar, located on State Route 332 adjacent to the Farmington Country Plaza, continues each week to attract new customers, as well as return guests, who enjoy great Italian cuisine specialties, good wine and live jazz music. After having a lengthy period of approval from the State Liquor Authority, the restaurant now has its’ liquor license and provides a large bar menu.

Another restaurant that continues to prosper is “El Jimardor,” the authentic Mexican restaurant that is located along the west side of State Route 332. This restaurant continues to gain notoriety throughout the Finger Lake Region. “Tim Horton’s” has opened a new restaurant at the “Finger Lakes Racing & Gaming” facility, near the main entrance and adjacent to the gaming floor at the casino. Finally, “Kentucky Fried Chicken” (KFC) has completed their remodeling and have paved their parking lot and drive-through facilities at their location along the east side of State Route 332. “Park Place,” a long established restaurant, after being re-built from a major fire a couple of years ago, continues to serve as a community gathering place for Town residents.

CVS Pharmacy

The former “DiPacific’s” restaurant site, located at the northeast corner of the intersection of State Routes 96 & 332, is going to be transformed later this year to a new stand-alone CVS Pharmacy with drive-through window service. The CVS store is relocating from the Farmington Plaza to this new location and will be growing in size. Final site plans are expected to be acted upon in March of this year with the demolition of the former “DiPacific’s” restaurant and bar, and the “Dairy Ann” fast food restaurant.

“Mixers & More”

“Bombace Wine & Spirits” is expanding its facilities in the Farmington Plaza, located at the southwest corner of State Routes 96 & 332. A new 700 square foot variety store that specializes in items such as New York State Micro-brews, including a “Wall of Growlers.” Also included will be stuffed olives, pre-packaged cheeses, specialty mixers, stem ware and mugs, and other cocktail accessories. Finally, a “hi-end” cigar counter with humidor for fresh cigars to complement the wine and beer.

Climate Controlled Mini-warehouse Project

Currently under construction along the east side of the northern section of Commercial Drive is an eight unit mini-warehouse project known as “A Safe Place Self Storage.” Two of the eight units will be climate controlled, while the remaining six units will be unheated. The project extends sidewalks south from Collett Road to the site, as well as extending a portion of Commercial Drive southward.

New Insurance Office Opens

“Powell Insurance,” has opened a new office in the Wades Plaza. Located between the Farmington Branch of Canandaigua National Bank and the Wades Supermarket facility. The agency provides a wide array of insurance coverage.

Canandaigua National Bank Improvements

Customers at the Farmington Branch of Canandaigua National Bank (CNB) are enjoying the new interior renovations that are being completed at this facility. In addition to expanded offices for the manager and assistant manager there are additional bank operations now located here in Farmington, that serve other branches of CNB. A new handicapped accessible banking teller has been provided, as well as, new conference room facilities.

ESL Building Renovations

The Eastman Savings & Loan (ESL) Building, located at the southeast corner of State Route 332 and Collett Road, has been renovated providing back-up operations for all of the ESL Banking facilities. In addition, a large portion of the building is being leased to the University of Rochester, for its’ use in backing up all of the computerized records associated with the University and the University of Rochester Medical Center.

AR-15 Building Renovations

The former “Soper Sports” facility, located on State Route 96, opposite Wades Plaza, has nearly completed its’ extensive renovations and is operating a .com weapons supply company. Plans for providing training and certification for area law enforcement officers are also underway at this location.

Commercial Drive Businesses Expand

A new Community Food Pantry, Victor/Farmington Food Cupboard, will be moving in to one of the vacant store fronts located along the west side of the southern portion of Commercial Drive. In addition, “Right Choice Contracting Service,” will be occupying one of the other vacant store fronts in this area.

Saratoga Crossings Project

The third and final section of this upscale townhouse rental project has been approved by the town with building construction slated to commence this spring. Located off-from Gateway Drive and Plastermill Road, near Exit 44 of the New York State Thruway, this gated community provides a lifestyle that is meeting an expanding market in the Town of Farmington. Rumors are circulating that another, similar project to the Saratoga Crossings Project may be forthcoming later this year. Stay tuned!

Auburn Meadows Subdivision Expands

New streets, water lines, sewer lines, gas and electric services, have been installed in the new Section 4 of the Auburn Meadows Project. This newest 55 lot section to the 469 lot Auburn Meadows Project, brings the total number of approved lots to just over 200. Section 5, another 50 lot section, has received final approvals from the town and construction of the missing link between the northern portion and the southern portion of the project is expected to begin later this year. With each new section, Ryan Homes offers the opportunity for new housing styles.

The Estates @ Beaver Creek, Section 2

The second of three sections of this subdivision tract located along the north side of the Canandaigua/Farmington Town Line Road, has been approved by the town and construction of new roads, water lines, sewer lines and sidewalks is expected to commence this spring. Eventually, this new subdivision tract will connect with the adjacent Auburn Meadows Subdivision Tract, Section 4. Meeting yet the needs of a diverse housing market, the contractor for “@ Home Builders” continue to provide quality at comparable prices. Operating from their recently opened display offices on State Route 96 here in Farmington, the contractor affords extensive options for the home buyers.

Parks & Recreation Master Plan Update

The Town of Farmington Park & Recreation Master Plan is scheduled to be updated later this year, as part of the town’s ongoing planning program. Included in the update will be a park master plan for an approximately 40 acre site located in both the Auburn Meadows Subdivision Tract and The Estates @ Beaver Creek Subdivision Tract. This master plan update will complement the forthcoming plans for the Auburn Trail connection with the City of Canandaigua.

Auburn Trail Feasibility Study

Consultants continue their evaluation of a linear trail connecting the Auburn Trail that terminates at County Road 41 with the Ontario Pathways Trail, located in the City of Canandaigua. This missing link in the regional and statewide trail systems is expected to be evaluated with a preferred corridor alignment that is due in May of this year. This section of trail will enable Farmington’s hikers, joggers and bicyclists to travel between major points such as Allegheny State Park in Olean, to the Erie Canal Corridor, to the City of Rochester, to the City of Canandaigua, to the villages of Phelps and Clifton Springs, as well as many of the municipalities along the ways. Once the study has been accepted by the towns of Canandaigua & Farmington, the City of Canandaigua and the Genesee Transportation Council, the opportunity for grant funding assistance for the construction of this missing link will be greatly increased. Finger Lakes Racing & Gaming Casino

The Finger Lakes Racing & Gaming facility owners, Delaware North, are awaiting the outcome of the State of New York’s proposed table gaming legislation that is being promoted currently across the radio airways and newspapers. No specific details are known at this time, however, with the expansion of gaming services look for a much expanded venue at this regional facility. The prospects for economic growth and development are just beginning to be envisioned.
